Corn maze!

Now, I know we are way behind on posting about all our travels and family visits this summer. Maybe one day I will put up some pictures from this summer, but this is not that post. This is actually a post about something we did recently. Like, less than a month ago. I know, it's a miracle.

So a few weekends ago we went to a local farm for a corn maze/pumpkin patch/kids free for all play area. It was a blast! There was so much to do and I think we wound up spending almost 3 hours there playing all the games, going down the slides, jumping on the bounce houses, and picking our pumpkins.

There was so much to see and do that I couldn't even get pictures of it all. Both the kids were in awe of the huge tractors and combines strategically placed around the whole farm. I pointed out this enormous one and told her to go sit in the tire. She was just flabbergasted that she could actually sit in the wheel!

Cora, go sit in the giant tire!
After we pulled them away from the tractors we headed to the corn maze. Rhys refused to be carried or to ride on our shoulders, and therefore spent most of the maze chasing Cora and trying to escape from us. And falling down. There was lots of falling down on his part. We didn't get lost, thankfully, and Cora had a good time answering the "clues" that helped us navigate our way around.

Rhys is always chasing after his sister.
After about a half hour we emerged from the corn maze and headed to the play area. An old combine had been used as a platform on which to build this giant slide and an even longer one on the other side. Cora beelined straight for it and would have spent the rest of the afternoon there if we hadn't pointed out all the other fun things to do!

Best. Slide. Ever!
Rhys particularly liked the bounce house and cried furiously when we pulled him out of there. He quickly relented, however, when we sent him over to the football throw. Not that he actually threw it, but he did really enjoy hugging the football.

Working on his form
It was a pretty hot day, so we were all glad to head over to the shaded corn box and play. Geoff and I sat on some nearby benches and watched the kids play together without fighting for a change. By the time they were ready to move on we had to shake all the loose corn out of their pant cuffs.

Sandbox? No, Cornbox!
Geoff and Cora headed off to another huge bouncing thing and I took Rhys to see the baby pygmy goats. He was entranced! Every time one would walk close by, Rhys would reach out as if to pet it, but he would start laughing and the goats would step away. He did manage to pet them a few times, and he was thankfully more gentle with them than he is with Clark.

Rhys loved the baby pygmy goats.

Lastly we headed to the pumpkin patch! Cora immediately picked up the first pumpkin she saw, and immediately abandoned it for the second pumpkin she saw. After combing through at least 20 feet of the pumpkin patch we found a beauty. Sadly, by this point Rhys was too tired to smile for his photo op.

Too tired to smile
Cora found herself a little tiny pumpkin and cuddled it while we waited for the hayride to take us back to the main area.

It's her precious.
It was a really great day! I am looking forward to going back this spring to pick some strawberries, and if we are still in the area next autumn we will be back for another great day of corn mazes and pumpkin pickin'!
